Holiday season is coming up and one of the most memorable events last Christmas was designing and mailing out a childhood friend’s elopement announcement the day after it happened in New Zealand.
The postcard was designed to be a surprise holiday cheer with a cartoon version of the newly weds and their big news. The thing is – and a learning for us – the postcard was not as impactful as we had hoped because people were not quite sure who got eloped! We did not include the couple’s first names as we thought it was obvious (the surname is not popular and it was mailed to close family and friends) but it wasn’t. Fortunately, the New Zealand stamp helped recipients connect the dots.
After the big reveal, there was a short lived running joke that you ask anyone who was going on vacation with their partner if they planned to eloped. I went to Hawaii the following month and no, I did not elope.
I created a Zazzle account and added designs for elopement wedding announcements which became my most popular category. With a focus on photo cards, there was no way people wouldn’t know who got eloped – last name or not – with a photo! (My templates still include a personalized first and last name template for formal and just in case purposes.)
Here are two elopement announcement designs featuring the couple that started it all:
The “eloped” script was written on my iPad Pro. I am still experimenting on Procreate and plan to fill this site and Zazzle with hand drawn creations.
